A special groundbreaking ceremony was held to celebrate start of works to develop a state-of-art the NHS mental health facility and a new Special Educational Needs (SEN) school.
Today marked the start of construction on this £30+ million mixed-use collaboration between LocatED and South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust.
The ambitious redevelopment will deliver:
- The new London River Academy – a specialist 90-place school for children with social and emotional mental health needs, operated by the Beckmead Trust
- A state-of-the-art NHS mental health facility providing vital community services
Our team, including Chief Executive Lara Newman, was on site for this significant milestone. As Lara said at the ceremony: “By working closely with our NHS partners and the Beckmead Trust, we’re demonstrating how collaborative approaches can transform public services and deliver exceptional facilities for the communities we serve.”
This project exemplifies our commitment to innovative public sector partnerships that maximise the value of government land. The redevelopment showcases what can be achieved when education, healthcare and community needs are addressed through practical, purpose-built solutions.
The school is scheduled to open in 2027 as part of a wider regeneration of this historic site.
